The product works as promised. No complaints with the product. My only complaint is that the directions are not clear. The directions are overly wordy and the pictures are small ad zoomed in. I ended up using the picture that showed the entire Tow Defender to help me figure out installation. It seemed that some steps were missed, like attaching the screen to the bars. Some of the confusion may be because the Tow Defender can be installed on different tow bars and different RVs. Better picture would be helpful.
I have not installed the Tow Defender because it would not fit my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee as advertised. Buried in the fine print is the requirement to buy an extension for my RV to keep the cloth from being too long, but also to measure and drill new holes in the toad mounting bar to match the lugs on my Blue Ox equipment. I would love to return it as it was never used, but Roadmaster won't take it back.
I love this product. We installed it on our Roadmaster Nighthawk towbar. The very first trip we took proved it's value. We towed our 2023 Equinox LT (AWD) through a section of road construction where they had just laid down aggregate and spray tar. I was really nervous that our white car was going to be covered in flecks of tar. But the Tow Defender did it's job... the car was almost spotless! Great job Roadmaster and etrailer!
Had to drill new holes to get it to line up to the towed mounting bracket otherwise install was easy. Once you get your method down on/off is a breeze. It must be working, no stone chips on the Jeep since I started using it and the bottom always has road grime on it. Would be nice if the straps for rolling it up when not in use were attached somehow (one less thing I have to keep track of). it would also be nice if there was some kind of loop sewed in mid point to clip the electric and air brake lines to.
Good protection for the front of my new towed vehicle.
Just mounted the screen. Easy to install but still needed to drill holes for rear mounting
We have towed our 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee over 15K miles behind our Class A motorhome in the past year. I'm happy to say that the tow defender did it's job well. Can't find a single rock chip on the jeep.
I purchased the Defender to protect our new Equinox during our trip to Alaska. I wasn't sure how it would hold up to all the gravel roads and construction typical of Alaska roads. I was extremely satisfied with its performance and ease of how quickly it attaches to the toad. We now use it everytime we tow.
I did have to modify the ladder on the motorhome because the lower loop rung hung below the level plane of the defender. It was an easy modification and worth the tradeoff for the Tow Defender.

Good as new! The durability is exceptional. We never tow without it.
A little pricey but it installed easily after thoroughly reading the instructions and picking up two 3/8th bolts that didn’t make it into the box. This looks like it will do great
Installed it on our 2019 Chevy Equinox on the back of our 2004 Itasca Meridian and everything fit as it should, easy to assemble, I will need to install an 8 inch extension to my receiver hitch to provide clearance for the exhaust pipe, looks good confident it will keep debris off of our new car. Thank you for the great service and great products.

In the year since I purchased the defender we have traveled over 13000 miles from snow in the north to sand in the south west heavy rain in the mid west and our 2019 Chevy equinox shows no signs of damage. I do have some slight damage to the edge of the defender from the exhaust of the motor home but it doesnt cause any problem, it still rolls up when not in use. Very good product, I would not tow without it.
Solid Product. Well made, easy to install. Lots of ways to adjust. Hoping this helps protect our Jeep. Watch the installation video first. It has a few steps and tips that are not written in the printed instructions.
RV and toad need to be lined up perfectly to use the rock screen. This means once I have hooked up the toad to the RV, I typically have to pull forward 5-10 feet to perfectly align the vehicles before I can lock the screen in place. I am not convinced it offers enough protection for this hassle.
Easy install, works great.
Well designed protective product.
The product works well and is constructed well. I gave it 4 stars because it mentions about being to close to the exhaust and causing damage to the fabric but doesn't talk about other possible concerns. I have a Tiffin 2018 Allegro Red motorhome. My ladder on the back of my motorhome interfered with proper operation of this part. My solution ending up being to cut off the lower section of my ladder. I have attached pictures so hopefully someone can see this as an issue before purchasing.
With etrailer customer service support I made sure I orderd the right part for my set up. Installation instructions were simple. For my unit I had to use the inside (closer) sleaves to keep fabric tight. It should keep down the debris from the tow vehicle. Time will tell.
For our RV the tire defender needs none hear sensitive materials or a way to pull it up on turns. We pulled into a campground and it hung to close to our muffler. Fleetwood has a long one. Melted the plastic screen. Otherwise it worked.

Ive sold the f-150 truck we bought to use this with. I may modify it to fit our tow dolly to help protect our 2WD Escape. For now I have decided not to fit GMC 3.0 Duramax Sierra for towing,
A little modifications were required to fit it in between the RV and the Jeep. The Winnebago Forza receiver hitch was recessed in close to the back cap, so I had to extend the tow bar out and use the pin hole near the end. Moved the flexible arms to the inside pockets of the defender. That tightened the fabric up just enough. Will have to fold the original pocket around and stitch it up to the underside to keep it off the rear cap, and exhaust pipe elbow.
Product arrived quickly. It was well constructed. Watched the etrailer video and read through the instructions and started to install. The 2 3/8 by 1" bolts and nuts were missing otherwise I would have given it a 5 rating. Luckily I only live 1 mile from the hardware store so I went ahead and got 4 because they were only 35 cents each. Rest of installation went great and test drive was good looks like it should do the job. Ready for the trip and will follow up on performance.

Works Perfect. One 1200 mile round trip from SC to Florida and Two 2000 mile round trips to Michigan. No noticeable chips on the Wrangler. Easy to roll up and unroll for use.
Just installed. Installation video was much better than the Roadmaster directions. Seems like it should greatly reduce debris on the front of my towed vehicle. Had to drill new holes in the rear arm per the instructions due to the wider spacing on my F150 tow brackets.

Doing great a year later. This deflector really has helped keep the road grime off the front of my F150 I tow. Definitely a must have to protect your tow.
I am disappointed in RoadMaster. Some of the screws, nuts, and washers were missing. I could not wait to request a new fastener set, I had to get the install and fit check finished. In addition the Tow Guard screen did not have RoadMaster logos like all the pictures show. I did not buy much lower cost units that have the same part number from eBay or Ail Express because they did not show the RoadMaster logo and I thought they would be knock offs. Now I am not so sure that I received a RoadMaster quality Tow Guard since it does not have logos and was missing many fasteners. So that this is not all negative, the parts and screen appear to be good quality and the design looks like it will block the rocks and has the sprig loaded arms to allow turning without damaging the screen. Time will tell if it works as advertised and the materials hold up. For the price of this rock guard they should have also included some additional sleeves that would protect the tow bar, which is not protected by the screen guard. I believe the chip road surfaces will ruin my RoadMaster Sterling Off Road tow bar. I will probably make a set of sleeves myself to preserve the expensive tow bar. I will be driving to Alaska this summer towing my Jeep. If possible I will update this installation review with a review of the performance when I return.
Easy installation! I watched the installation video once and that is all the instructions I needed. Fits perfectly, all hardware was included. And BIG thanks to Nathan at etrailer. He was able to get this shipped to my next destination in Alaska while I was on the road.
It was easy to install. The only thing is b/c we have a Jeep 392 or the Roadmaster towing system was wider than the holes in the bar, I had to drill one hole so I could attach the safety pin. No big deal. It works great and very simple to unroll and attach for towing. Very durable as well.
Works great. Easy to install. I still have questions about what is too tight and too loose but I'm going to call Roadmaster tomorrow.

I'd be interested in hearing what they tell you, but from the photos, everything looks great! :)
